David and Vickie Lewis, making a Difference in our Communities
Imagine this - your teenage daughter is working at a local restaurant and a complete stranger pops in and begins taking photos of her. What would you do? Well this situation is exactly what C&K’s Terminal Manager, David Lewis faced. Like most parents, he and his wife Vickie were concerned. When they learned that the person taking the photos was a registered sex offender, they were outraged. Unfortunately, they learned that there were no laws against this in the State of Georgia. “We couldn’t believe that there wasn’t a law prohibiting sex offenders from taking photos of minors” said David. “You become concerned when you realize that a sexual predator has taken pictures of your daughter and there’s nothing you can do about it”.

For David and Vickie, this unfortunate incident sparked a desire to make a difference. They shared their story with others and asked for help in preventing this from happening to someone else’s daughter. Over a two year period, they met with politicians, civic leaders and concerned citizens explaining the need for legislation to stop child predators from photographing minors. Their mission led them to Georgia State Senator Eric Johnson who shared their concerns and sponsored bill SB1, which would make photographing minors by sexual offenders illegal. Their persistency and hard work paid off on May 13, 2008 as Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue signed bill SB1 into law. Vickie and David Lewis were invited to the signing of the bill by the Governor and were presented the pen as a sign of gratitude.

C&K Trucking is proud of the efforts of David and Vickie Lewis. They have proven that concerned citizens can make a difference and because of their efforts, their community is now a safer environment for children.
